Residential Care at Norwood House

Residential Care in Scunthorpe

Norwood House Residential offers warm, comfortable, and professional residential care in Gunness, Scunthorpe — a true home from home where older people can live with dignity, independence, and the support they need. Situated in a Grade II listed building surrounded by beautiful secure gardens, our care home provides the very best in person-centred residential care for people across North Lincolnshire.

What Is Residential Care?

Residential care is the right option when living independently at home is no longer safe or practical, but nursing-level medical care is not required. At Norwood House, our residential care service provides 24-hour assistance with daily living — from personal care and medication management to meals, companionship, and activities — in a safe, comfortable, and genuinely homely setting.

Comfortable Accommodation

We offer 26 spacious, well-furnished en-suite bedrooms across two floors, all accessible via passenger lift. Every room is tastefully decorated and equipped with a TV point and Nurse Call System. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms with family photographs, ornaments, and even pieces of their own furniture — because this is their home, and it should feel like it.

All bedrooms have individual locks and keys for privacy, and we can arrange the safekeeping of valuables. Our comfortable communal lounges and dining room provide welcoming spaces to relax, socialise, and enjoy the company of others.

Person-Centred Care Around the Clock

Our experienced care team is on hand 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide whatever support is needed. Each resident has an individual care plan developed in consultation with them and their family, covering personal preferences, daily routines, health needs, and personal goals. We review care plans regularly to ensure they continue to reflect each person's needs as they evolve over time.

We believe firmly that residential care should never mean losing your independence. Our staff support residents to do as much as they choose for themselves, stepping in with help only when it is wanted or needed.

Exceptional Dining

Our in-house chef produces fresh, nutritious, home-style meals daily using seasonal ingredients. We cater for all dietary requirements, cultural preferences, and personal tastes — and our chef is happy to incorporate residents' favourite dishes into the menu. Meals are served in our dining room or, for those who prefer, in the privacy of their own room.

We hold regular themed food events and special celebrations, and always encourage residents to invite family and friends to join them for meals at any time. Our café area provides tea, coffee, and refreshments for residents and visitors throughout the day.

Activities, Hobbies, and Community

Life at Norwood House is active and fulfilling. Our dedicated Activities Coordinator organises a varied daily programme including quizzes, baking, arts and crafts, gardening, music sessions, armchair exercises, board games, bingo, and much more. We host regular entertainers, guest speakers, and community groups, and our popular gardening club produces vegetables and herbs that go straight to our kitchen.

Wi-Fi is available throughout the home, and we have an onsite phone so residents can easily stay in touch with family and friends. Our sensory garden, TV lounge, quiet lounge, activities room, and pets corner all provide different spaces to explore and enjoy.

Health and Personal Care

Our team is trained to support residents with all aspects of personal care, including bathing, dressing, continence care, and mobility assistance. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, physiotherapists, chiropodists, opticians, and dentists — all of whom visit the home regularly — so residents receive comprehensive healthcare without needing to leave the building.
